Publix tops the food and drugstore industry list on Fortune's World's Most Admired Companies ranking for the third year in a row. It is No. 42 on the overall list.
The grocer is committed to supporting the communities in which it operates. Over the last two years, Publix has donated nearly 400 million meals to help put food on the tables of people in need through its perishable recovery program, farmers and families initiative, and Feeding More Together campaigns.
Additionally, as an employee-owned company, Publix is devoted to the highest standards of stewardship for its stockholders. Since 2020, the company has opened 54 stores and hired thousands of new associates in its stores, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers to meet increased demand due to the coronavirus, according to the retailer.
“Publix was built on the philosophy of doing the right thing, set by our founder, George Jenkins,” said Maria Brous, director of communications for Publix, in a statement. “Because we've remained true to this philosophy and continue to operate by it more than 90 years later, Publix has continued to grow as a strong, healthy, and vibrant company. We're humbled to receive this accolade, especially during these challenging times.”
The list of the World's Most Admired Companies is determined based on ratings calculated from thousands of businesspeople within each industry. Survey respondents are asked to rate companies in their own industry on nine criteria, from investment value and quality of management and products to social responsibility and the ability to attract talent.
