Local Foods in Spotlight at MLB All-Star Game

T-Mobile Park in Seattle, known for its elevated, innovative culinary offerings, has created a limited-time menu for the upcoming Major League Baseball All-Star Game, featuring fresh takes on local foods and flavors.

Hospitality provider Sodexo Live! said the Pacific Northwest-themed menu, which debuts this Friday and runs through next Tuesday’s game, was developed by a team led by Javier Rosa, executive chef at Sodexo Live!, along with the stadium’s local hospitality partners.

“The Pacific Northwest has some of the country’s best seafood, culturally influenced cuisines, craft beers, wines and so much more, so we made sure to reflect that in our menu offerings so fans can really cover all the bases,” said Meagan Murray, Sodexo Live! general manager, T-Mobile Park.

Among the offerings is a collaboration between Portland, Oregon-based ice cream chain Salt & Straw and local beer brewer Métier Brewing Company, one of the few Black-owned breweries in the country. The two have joined forces to offer the limited-edition Pale Stout and Cracker Jack Ice Cream flavor for the occasion.

Rodney Hines, co-founder and CEO of Métier Brewing Company previously was director of social impact for U.S. operations at Starbucks, and is a board member at PCC Community Markets. The company operates a flagship taproom in the Central District of Seattle, a taproom in Woodinville, Washington, and a brewpub in the Seattle area known as SODO.

Earlier this year, Salt & Straw, which is known for incorporating unusual local ingredients—including upcycled mix-ins such as movie-theater popcorn—in its ice creams, debuted a new flavor at the ballpark: Beecher’s Cheese & Apple Pie, made with Seattle’s Beecher’s Flagship Cheese.

Other menu items created for the All-Star Game include:

• All-Star Stromboli, filled with coppa, finocchiona, bresaola, mozzarella, and Momma Lil’s tomato gravy, at Ballard Pizza Company;

• All-Star Tripleta Sandwich, made with house-smoked brisket, pork, and ham with dill pickles, home run derby sauce, and shoestring fries;

• Crab Pizza, which begins with dough made using a century-old sourdough starter, topped with fresh Dungeness crab, butter, dill, thyme, and parmesan, and finished with fresh squeezed lemon and herbs, from the wildly popular local MOTO Pizza chain;

• Footlong Dungeness Crab Roll, made with Dungeness crab salad in a lemon tarragon dressing, served on a grilled footlong brioche roll and topped with Tobiko caviar;

• Furikake Pretzel Mix, featuring sweet and spicy glazed pretzels, furikake, and chili flakes from Marination, a local restaurant that blends Hawaiian and Korean cuisines;

• Northwest Wild Alaskan Salmon Chowder, a slightly spicy chowder featuring wild-caught Alaskan Keta salmon over native hardwood, from local seafood restaurant chain Ivar’s, and

• Blackberry Mint Rainier Mojito, inspired by the Pacific Northwest’s famous Mount Rainier.

“We’re thrilled to showcase a diverse roster of local vendors and one-of-a-kind cuisine to fans coming from around the globe,” said Catie Griggs, president of business operations for the Seattle Mariners, in a statement.
