Lidl US, a German discount supermarket, announced recently that it will open its newest New York location in Deer Park, Long Island on January 18, reports Progressive Grocer. This is the company’s first ground-up build in the state and comes after an investment of over $12 million in the 36,000-square-foot facility.
Lidl stores offer a selection of food and non-food items that are swapped out every week.
“The new Deer Park Lidl store is a tremendous asset for Long Islanders,” said Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy, in a statement. “Lidl has a proven track record of providing great grocery at low prices and offering their employees strong compensation and benefits. I have seen firsthand how Lidl’s presence in Suffolk County has given a choice that didn’t exist prior.”
For the month of January, one percent of profits on purchases of its Peak Harvest private label produce line will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The new location takes advantage of eco-friendly features like electric vehicle charging stations and CO2 natural refrigerants.
“The installed electric vehicle chargers will support their customers who choose to drive electric vehicles, and the efficient refrigeration equipment will save Lidl money and energy while helping the environment,” said Michael Voltz, PSEG Long Island’s director of energy efficiency and renewable energy, in a statement.
