1. Worst Avian Flu Outbreak Ravages U.S.

The highly contagious avian flu has continued to wreak havoc upon tens of millions of poultry flocks around the country, causing egg prices to surge and supplies to dwindle. This is considered the worst outbreak in U.S. history.

2. High Egg Prices Spark Concern

Historically high egg prices may be attributed, in part, to price gouging from top companies, according to the U.S. farm group Farm Action, which asserts that The Federal Trade Commission should investigate.

3. Trendspotters Scout Out Innovations at the Show

Ingredients supporting high quality cooking at home, innovative beverages, and products that are good for consumers and the environment, were among the trends spotted at the 2023 Winter Fancy Food Show by SFA Trendspotters Kantha Shelke of Corvus Blue LLC and Nicole Brisson of Brezza and Bar Zazu at Resorts World Las Vegas.

4. Walmart to End Single-Use Plastic, Paper Use in 2 States

Walmart announced its timeline to phase out single-use plastic and paper distribution at its stores in New York and Colorado. The policy went into effect on New Year's Day in Colorado and was implemented by January 18 in New York.

5. USDA Strengthens Organic Certification

This update to the USDA organic regulations strengthens oversight and enforcement of organic products' production, handling, and sale.
