As inflation plateaus, Whole Foods asked suppliers to help lower prices by lowering wholesale prices, according to the Wall Street Journal. At a recent virtual summit, the grocer told suppliers that it wants to bring down retail prices as its costs begin to lower.
3. Albertsons, Kroger to Sell up to 300 Stores
Albertsons and Kroger announced plans to sell between 250 and 300 stores in an effort to alleviate antitrust concerns relating to Kroger's proposed $24.6 billion acquisition of Albertsons.
4. Walmart to Close Three Stores
Walmart announced plans to shutter three stores near Chicago, one of which facilitated the first pickup- and delivery-only pilots in the U.S.
5. H Mart Opens in American Dream Mall
H Mart, an East Asian grocer, opened in the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The inclusion of the store was announced in 2019 with a projected opening in 2021 but it experienced delays.
