Publix has reopened its location in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, after Hurricane Ian devastated the area in 2022.
“Our customers and the communities we serve are at the heart of all we do,” said store manager Darryll Yarick in a statement. “As our community continues to rebuild, we are honored and privileged to serve our customers and welcome them back into our store.”
During the grand opening on May 25, boxed lunches were given to first responders, volunteers, and residents working to rebuild the island. The grocer also donated $5,000 in shelf-stable food, hygiene items, and more to Beach Baptist Church in Fort Myers Beach to give back to the community.
One employee, Elda, shared her story about how the hurricane affected her and her family.
“Without the support of my family, friends, and co-workers, I’m not sure I would have been able to get back to this point,” she said. “Now that the rebuilding process is complete for my family and my Publix family, I look forward to helping my church with additional clean-ups in the community.”
