Four hundred food items from Fresh Creative Cuisine have been recalled due to possible listeria contamination, reports ABC News. Affected foods include ready-to-eat sandwiches, salads, snacks, yogurts, and wraps.
All the products had “fresh through” or “sell through” dates between January 31 and February 6, and many were sold on Amtrak trains.
"Products…were available on Acela and Northeast Regional trains between January 24 and January 29," said Amtrak to ABC News. "These products were promptly removed from trains upon notification. All products currently served onboard are completely safe to consume. We take the health and safety of our customers seriously and will continue working with our suppliers to ensure the safety of all our food products.”
The inefficiency of the food recall process has caused some experts to worry about whether the recall will disrupt the fragile supply chain.
"It absolutely will," said John Stanton, Ph.D. professor, and chair of Food, Pharma, and Healthcare Department at Saint Joseph's University, in a statement. "To take up time to get it off the shelf, to get it back on trucks to be disposed of and it makes a mess of that whole category, really."
To date, no cases of illness have been reported. Full Story
