Bernard Francis Kenny Jr., former CEO of six ShopRite stores in Delaware, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, according to his obituary posted by Delaware Online.
His first position in the food industry began at age 12, where he worked alongside a local butcher.
“From these humble beginnings Bernie climbed every step of the corporate ladder and ultimately became the owner, operator, and CEO of 6 ShopRite Stores in Delaware. Bernie always credited his business success to the guidance and encouragement of the mentors he encountered, especially Al Aidekman, Herb Brody, and Milton Perlmutter," according to the obituary.
Kenny was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In place of a traditional educational path, he left high school to join the U.S. Army, eventually earning the rank of Master Sergeant. He brought this perspective to his grocery business career.
“Bernie was a leader, a motivator, and a source of inspiration. He lived his life with passion and a generosity of spirit that will be missed,” the obituary said. Full Story
