Dollar General will add produce to about 700 stores during 2021, said chief operating officer Jeff Owen during an earnings call, reports Grocery Dive. This brings the total number of stores carrying product to more than 1,800.
In addition, CEO Todd Vasos said the discount retailer will introduce two larger format stores, which it started testing in 2020. The first has 8,500 square feet of selling space and the second has 9,500 square feet. The larger one can accommodate an expanded variety of produce, fresh meat, additional checkout lanes, and an area with self-checkout stations, Owen said.
Dollar General sees room to double the size of its existing 17,000 stores in the future, according to the report. Full Story
