Carrot-Based Cheese to Debut at Fancy Food Show

Specialty Food Association

Carrot-based vegan cheese slices from Rind will debut at next month's Winter Fancy Food Show in Las Vegas.

The sofi Gold Award-winning brand was founded in 2017 by Dina DiCenso and Joshua Katcher, offering soft-ripened, French-style wheels that feature authentic mold rinds consisting of bloomy camembert and piquant blue, according to the company.

“We’ve been able to achieve such robust and complex flavors by developing production methods inspired by time-honored European cheese-making techniques,” said Katcher, in a statement. “Drawing from this craft has allowed us to bring the quality we’re known for to our new sliced cheeses.”

Rind recently upgraded its Brooklyn, New York facility to a 3,000 square-foot state-of-the-art cheese cave in the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, making it New York City’s only dedicated vegan cheese cave.

Rind's newest plant-based cheese is made with real carrots and has a creamy, robust, and cheesy flavor with a melty, gooey, and luscious texture when heated, according to the company. It’s vegan and free of gluten, nuts, soy, GMOs, and palm oil, and works well in grilled, hot and pressed sandwiches, burgers, cold sandwiches, sauces, platters, casseroles, salads, toppings, and baked goods, according to Rind.

“Whether it’s our new facility or our expanding range of products, we’re acting quickly to accommodate a surge in demand for RIND. What’s most important to us is maintaining a careful balance of ingredients and manufacturing techniques that result in characteristics indistinguishable from dairy cheese,” said DiCenso, in a statement.
