Amazon recently revealed in a blog post its intentions to eliminate roughly 9,000 positions in the coming weeks, particularly in Amazon Web Services, PXT, Advertising, and Twitch.
CEO Andy Jassy said that current economic uncertainty has compelled the business to “be more streamlined in [its] costs and headcount.” This led Amazon to lay off 18,000 in January, and in planning for the next phase, lay off an additional 9,000.
Jassy wrote that the company's plan for this year was to focus on becoming leaner while still investing in opportunities to improve customer experience.
“I remain very optimistic about the future and the myriad of opportunities we have, both in our largest businesses, Stores and AWS, and our newer customer experiences and businesses in which we’re investing,” wrote Jassy. Full Story
