Amid reports of rising prices for Thanksgiving staples, Aldi is offering a Butterball turkey, sides, and pumpkin pie for less than $30, both in stores and online. With nearly 90 percent of hosts expecting to spend $50 or more on a Thanksgiving meal for up to 10 guests, the retailer claims that its offer means that customers will spend at least 40 percent less.
"I'm incredibly proud that for less than $30, ALDI shoppers can prepare a delicious Thanksgiving meal, including the turkey, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and more,” said Dave Rinaldo, co-president Aldi U.S., in a statement. “With that kind of savings, you may have room for an extra chair or two around the table this year.”
A recent Morning Consult survey of 2,200 Americans, commissioned by the limited assortment discounter, found most people are eager to celebrate Thanksgiving and plan to gather with pre-pandemic size groups. The survey also asked participants to consider what's better: the turkey or the sides? The main dish was voted the favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal, beating out the sides by 2 percentage points. Hosts said they will also be serving appetizers (46 percent), dessert (58 percent), and alcoholic beverages (34 percent).
For the second year in a row, Aldi is embracing the holiday giving season by gifting every employee two $30 gift cards to cover the cost of two Thanksgiving meals; one to keep, one to give. "The culture of kindness that exists among the Aldi community is nothing short of remarkable," said Rinaldo. "We're proud to carry that tradition forward this Thanksgiving and pay-it-forward in our communities."
