New York, NY – June 14, 2024 – Tashelle Darby, creator of IrieVeda Allergen-Free Spices, invites attendees at the New York Summer Fancy Food Show to “sniff-test” before taste-testing her handcrafted line of savory spices and blends that are renowned for their rich flavor while being top-23 allergen free. “Utilizing your sense of smell is the important first step to learning how to eat mindfully,” says Darby. “With our culturally rich spice blends, health-conscious foodies can embark on a flavorful culinary journey, exploring authentic tastes and smells, while adhering to dietary restrictions and avoiding allergen triggers.” www.IrieVeda.com

Presented by the Specialty Food Association, the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City, June 23 – 25, 2024 will be held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. It attracts tens of thousands of attendees and buyers who seek to connect with the top national and international specialty food producers and makers that will be introducing this year’s most innovative and elevated food experiences. IrieVeda Spices, a minority woman-owned company, was selected to be featured as part of the first Startup CPG Pavilion in the Debut District, Booth 4607B.

Inspired by Ayurvedic principles and blended in an allergen-free facility in the Philadelphia suburbs, IrieVeda spices and blends are top-23 allergen free, certified gluten free, vegan, certified FODMAP safe (onion/garlic free), salt and sugar free, and made from organic fair-trade kosher spices. Ingredients are blended using traditional methods such as artisanal, small-batch roasting to enhance the natural flavors, according to Darby. “Spices aren’t harvested or picked until the order is placed, and we try to source our herbs from local farms,” she says.

With dozens of versatile individual and bundled offerings, IrieVeda will showcase handcrafted specialty blends for baking, cooking, grilling and drinking. Highlighted trio bundles include:

  • World Trade Trio: New World Chili, Old World Roast, West Indies Curry
  • Zest For Life Trio: Jovial Jerk, Karma Shawarma, Zenful Zest
  • Baking Spirits Bright: Cozy, Cocoa Chai, Happy Harvest, Jolly Gingerbread

In addition to taste, the spices offer an aromatic nourishment experience that can enhance digestion and promote balance, according to Darby. For those who want to add some heat to the blends, IrieVeda offers Jamaican Scotch Bonnet pepper, Ancho Chili and Cayenne as add-ons.

At retail, single spices range from $5 to $8, spice blends range from $10 to $12, and spice bundles range from $18 to $45. All items are available at IrieVeda.com and specialty retail throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

ABOUT: After learning that her son was sensitive to all top nine food allergens, Darby was compelled not to let his allergen-limited diet restrict flavor. She immersed herself in researching food allergies and alternatives. Reconnecting with her cultural roots, she drew on her grandmother’s methods of preparing traditional Indian meals with fresh ingredients and fresh-roasted, ground spices to create custom spice blends. In April 2022 she launched the IrieVeda spice line. “My goal was to make spice blends that are safe, flavorful, and worry free,” says Darby, who is a certified Ayurvedic Health Instructor. “I coined the name from the Jamaican word ‘positive’ (Irie) and the Indian word for ‘knowledge’ (Veda), because I think it’s important for people to connect with and understand the food they eat. I encourage people to be mindful of what we eat and how it makes us feel.”
