Charlotte Charles
Born in 1927 in Germany, Margrit came to the U.S. in 1938. Sponsored by her uncle, Otto Sommers, the family settled in Chicago. After high school, she worked at Sue Ann Foods, a company owned by Max Ries, and later at Reese Finer Foods. In 1965, Margrit and her husband Steve bought Charlotte Charles. She became Executive Vice President of the country's first publicly-held specialty food company.
